Ride camels into the Sahara at sunset, sleep in a Berber desert camp, wake to the sunrise over the sand, and return through the cedar forests of the Middle Atlas. All meals, transport, and the overnight camp are included. Long drives, deep silence, and a pace that makes the desert feel earned.
Day 1: Fez to Merzouga – Into the Sahara
Leave Fez early and climb into the Middle Atlas. The road passes through the cedar forests near Ifrane, where Barbary macaques gather around an ancient cedar tree. Stretch your legs, breathe the mountain air, and watch the monkeys from a respectful distance before continuing south.
The landscape changes hour by hour: green forests, then rocky plains, then the palm groves of the Ziz Valley. You’ll stop for lunch somewhere along the road, a simple tagine or grilled brochettes at a roadside café. By late afternoon the road straightens, the colours warm, and the dunes of Erg Chebbi appear on the horizon.
At the edge of the sand, a line of camels waits. You’ll ride into the dunes as the sun drops, the light turning the peaks from amber to rose. The trek takes about an hour, and you arrive at camp just after sunset. Dinner is served in a communal tent or under the open sky: a slow‑cooked tagine, fresh bread, mint tea. Afterward, the camp guides play drums around the fire. Sleep in a canvas tent or pull your mattress outside and let the Milky Way put you to sleep.
Day 2: Merzouga to Fez – Return through the Middle Atlas
Wake before dawn if you want to climb a dune and watch the sunrise. After a short camel ride back to the lodge, breakfast is served with plenty of hot tea. The drive back to Fez takes most of the day, but it’s broken by short stops for photos, a proper lunch in Midelt, and a final tea break in the cedar forests. You’ll arrive in Fez by early evening, carrying a lot of sand and one very clear memory of the Sahara.

You’ll travel in a private, air‑conditioned 4WD or spacious minivan, late‑model Mercedes, Toyota, or similar, kept very clean and serviced regularly. Your driver is a licensed Moroccan professional with years of experience on mountain passes and Saharan pistes. Friendly, attentive, and discreet, they know every fuel stop, every viewpoint, and exactly how to pace the journey so you feel safe, comfortable, and never rushed.
