A private two‑day escape into the Rif Mountains. Spend the first day exploring Chefchaouen’s blue medina with a local guide, lunch at Ras El Ma, and sunset at the Spanish Mosque. On the second day, hike into Akchour Valley for a swim in the natural pools and lunch by the water. One night in a small auberge, and a pace that doesn't feels rushed.
Day 1: Fez to Chefchaouen – The Blue City
Leave Fez in the morning and drive north through the Rif Mountains. The road winds past cork oaks, small farms, and occasional views of distant peaks. You’ll stop for tea and photos along the way, arriving in Chefchaouen by midday.
The afternoon is spent inside the blue medina. You’ll visit the 15th‑century kasbah and its small museum, then walk the cobbled lanes with a local guide who explains the history of the city and its distinctive blue‑washed walls. Lunch is at Ras El Ma, the natural spring at the edge of the medina, where you’ll eat tagine or couscous with the sound of running water beside you.
Later, there’s time to browse the artisan shops for handwoven blankets, leather, and ceramics. As the sun begins to drop, climb the short path to the Spanish Mosque for the best panoramic view over the blue rooftops. After sunset, settle into a small auberge in the valley. Dinner is local, quiet, and unhurried. You’ll sleep in the heart of the Rif.
Day 2: Akchour Valley – Hike, Swim & Return to Fez
After breakfast, drive deeper into the Rif to Akchour Valley. The road narrows, the air cools, and the landscape turns greener. A short hike brings you to a series of natural pools fed by a waterfall. The water is cold and clear; you can swim or simply sit on the rocks with your feet in the stream.
Lunch is served by the water: a simple tagine, fresh bread, and mint tea. After lunch, you’ll have time to relax before beginning the drive back to Fez. You’ll arrive in the early evening, completing a two‑day circuit that balances the blue city’s calm with the valley’s wild beauty.
